A good African story: How a Small Company Built a Global Coffee Brand

By The Africa Report

Andrew Rugasira, the Ugandan entrepreneur who set out in 2003 to roast, pack and brand coffee for the international market, has made his mark in Africa and beyond.

Rugasira is the first African to sell locally produced coffee in Europe and the United States.

The book narrates the challenges he has faced as a businessman.

He narrates the costly and years-long struggle to manoeuvre his way into the good graces of some of the leading US and British supermarket chains.

Rugasira discusses problems that have slowed Africa's development: the infrastructural bottlenecks that made production costs high and personal challenges like the limited funds that almost crippled his company.

He offers counsel on what he believes needs to change if African entrepreneurs are to take advantage of opportunities in the West.

Here are useful lessons for any young African businessperson●
