LONDON 2012: Africa’s Olympians

olympicWith only few days to go tlll the 30th Olympic Games, African challengers have their sights set on medals in track, field, martial arts, football and basketball, while African Paralympians also make history. As Africa’s athletes walk out into the roar of the Olympic stadium for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics on 27 July, they will hope to better their haul of 26 medals in Beijing in 2008. Four years ago, the Kenyans were the top African team, winning five of the continent’s 12 gold medals and placing 15th in the world, three places ahead of Ethiopia. This will be London’s third Olympics after hosting the 1908 and 1948 games.
