S.Africa's maize output forecast cut to 10.608 mln T

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa on Tuesday slightly cut its maize output forecast for the 2010/11 season to 10.608 million tonnes from 10.679 million tonnes in its previous forecast.The maize crop will now consist of an estimated 6.182 million tonnes of white maize and 4.427 million tonnes of yellow, the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) said.The harvest estimate was higher than market expectations of 10.42 million tonnes, according to a Reuters poll.The CEC also said South African wheat farmers are likely to produce 1.903 million tonnes this year, compared with 1.862 million tonnes in the previous forecast.
