Ghana continue in their stride as Group D favourites after beating Bostwana and Mali. Meanwhile, Group A challengers, Libya and Senegal have been eliminated from the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
Group D
Guinea trashed debutantes Botswana 6-1 in a thrilling performance in Franceville on Saturday.
The margin of defeat was a disappointment for Botswana, especially after their spirited display against tournament favourites Ghana in their opening match.
Ghana are closer to qualifying for the quarter-final of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations after having beaten Mali 2-0, courtesy of goals from Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew at the Franceville Stadium on Saturday.
Both goals came in the second half after the two sides battled it out in a tense but physical first-half that saw a few attempts on goal.
The win gives Ghana a better chance of moving to the next stage of the continental showpiece, as they now top the group on six points, with Mali and Guinea on three and Botswana yet to register a positive result.
Group A
Libya overcame disappointing Senegal 2-1 when they met in their final Group A encounter in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night in Bata.
However, the two teams have now been eliminated from the competition.
Libya needed a win with hope that Zambia would lose in the other encounter against co-hosts Equatorial Guinea in Malabo.
On the other hand Zambia beat Equatorial Guinea – who had already qualified for the next round – 1-0 to top Group A.
Christopher Katongo scored the winning goal to bring the Equatoguinean's run of victories in the Africa Cup of Nations to an end.
