Patrick Smith Patrick Smith (Editor in chief) has edited the political and economic insider newsletter Africa Confidential since 1992. He was associate producer on a documentary about the 2004 coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea commissioned by Britain's Channel 4 television. He was technical advisor on the UN' Security Council's panel on illegal exploitation in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002 and 2003, and gave expert evidence to the UN Security Council panel on the links between the arms trade and illegal exploition in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Smith edited Who's Who in Southern Africa (Blackwell Publishers, UK, 1997) and AFRICA 2000 (Blackwell Publishers, UK, 2000). A regular broadcaster on the BBC, Smith also writes for Britain's Guardian and the Observer.
Richard Synge Richard Synge (Senior Editor) has edited and written for several specialist African publications, notably Africa Analysis, Africa Economic Digest, Africa Contemporary Record and Africa Research Bulletin. He has also worked as editor for a number of multilateral organisations including the African Development Bank, the United Nations and the Commonwealth.
His books include Mozambique: UN Peacekeeping in Action (USIP Press, 1997) and Nigeria: The Way Forward (Euromoney Books, 1993).
Nicholas Norbrook Nicholas Norbrook (Managing Editor) is a bilingual broadcaster at Radio France International in Paris. He has worked in Africa as a journalist in local radio.
Glynis Loizeau Glynis Loizeau (Public & Media Relations/Editorial Coordination) is an
ex-copywriter, born and raised in South Africa. She has worked in advertising, public relations and corporate film and documentary-making. Resident in France since 1997, she was a freelance translator and English writer until joining The Africa Report in 2006.
