Remembering Nelson Mandela: 18 July 1918 - 5 December 2013
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the first president of a free South Africa and one of the greatest icons of the last century, died at the age of 95. He was seen not only as an African icon, but also an international symbol for the struggle for freedom, having spent 27 years in prison under apartheid rule before his presidential inauguration in 1994.
