During their meeting on 7 November in Accra, Ecowas’ heads of state and government decided to impose individual sanctions on “members of the authorities and the transition government’s other institutions” in Bamako.

On 7 November, Ecowas met to discuss the situation in Guinea and Mali. It decided, among other things, to impose sanctions on Mali’s leaders. They are now banned from traveling and their financial assets have been frozen.

Although they were not mentioned by name in the organisation’s final statement, President Assimi Goïta, the government and the National Transitional Council (CNT), the legislative body, have all been directly affected.
