In Las Anod, located in self-declared entity of Somaliland, an autonomous area of Somalia, at least 70 people have been killed, more than 360 injured with more than 185,000 people displaced as fighting in early February escalated.

The assassination of a local opposition politician in the capital of the Sool region by unknown assailants in late December 2022 kicked off anti-government protests in the area, despite local and international calls for ceasefire and dialogue.
