Senegal’s Akon City, a colossal construction site in limbo

• Officialised in 2018, the Akon City project was met with great enthusiasm in Senegal, where it initially had the support of the authorities and in particular President Macky Sall.
• A plot of land was acquired and ambitious 3D plans were drawn up. The start of construction was announced for 2021. But in November 2022, the singer was taken to task by his government partners. Because in the meantime, nothing had moved.
