Ethiopia: Protests erupt over regional forces integration

Parts of Amhara, Ethiopia’s second-largest state, were gripped by unrest as thousands protested a government decision to absorb regional armed forces into the federal military or police.

Two residents of Gondar, Ethiopia’s former imperial capital, told The Africa Report that members of the Amhara regional forces had fired their weapons into the air while large crowds demonstrated on Sunday.
