Tanzania: Indiana mining will seize national airline planes if necessary in expropriation dispute

There are arguments for and against the idea that it’s beneficial for African countries to have their own national airlines. The risk of the airline’s planes being legally seized as part of a dispute over mineral rights expropriation is a factor which may have escaped late Tanzanian president John Magufuli.

Magufuli, who died in March 2021, made the revival of Air Tanzania one of his flagship projects. He also carried out a series of expropriations of mining licenses granted to foreign companies without compensation.
