Cameroon seeks Agoa reintegration to alleviate debt distress

Excluded from the African Growth and Opportunity Fund (Agoa) in 2019, Cameroon has shown the willingness to be reintegrated into the US flagship trade initiative with Africa. The government says this move could allow the country to notably reduce its debt burden by boosting its exports.

Cameroon’s Minister of the Economy Alamine Ousmane Mey revealed the intention to rejoin Agoa at an event organised by the think tank Atlantic Council during the ongoing IMF and World Bank spring meetings in Washington.
