IMF, World Bank embrace Ethiopia after peace deal

A resurgent Ethiopia returned to Washington this past week for the spring meetings of the World Bank and IMF with a message that the country is open for business after last fall’s ceasefire ended two years of war in Tigray.

On the heels of a positive IMF visit from 27 March to 7 April, Ethiopian financial authorities held preliminary talks to borrow around $2bn from the fund, Reuters reports. The loan would help close a $6bn funding gap until 2026.
