Nigeria: Southeast set to lose out in quest for Senate president and speaker

Nigeria’s southeast region is set to lose out in the race for the Senate presidency and the speaker of the House of Representatives, top sources tell The Africa Report, fearing that it could trigger fresh secessionist agitations.

This comes after the poor performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the presidential election within the southeast region in February. Tinubu got 5.72% of the votes and Peter Obi of the Labour Party got 87.78%.
