UN backs Chad’s call for more aid as a precursor to democracy

The UN is all in for Chad even as the US and others question the solidity of its democratic transition.

The UN threw its weight squarely behind Chad’s appeal for tens of millions of dollars of more aid on the first day of the general assembly’s high-level week in New York despite lingering Western concerns about President Mahamat Déby’s commitment to democracy.
